MARG JOINS HANDS WITH THE 'GREEN KALAM' INITIATIVE

~Plants 25,000 saplings at MARG Swarnabhoomi~

~Part of a mammoth green drive to plant 1 million saplings in Tamil Nadu ~

~ Padmashri recipient, Actor Vivek and other dignitaries join this 'green mission'~

Chennai, September 30, 2011: MARG Ltd., one of the leading infrastructure companies in India today announced its association with the inspiring 'Green Kalam' movement, a mega environment friendly initiative undertaken to plant 1 million saplings across Tamil Nadu. As an environmentally responsible corporate, MARG today planted 25,000 saplings at MARG Swarnabhoomi. This is not just a onetime contribution to this noble cause but MARG, in the process, is carrying forward its vision of planting 1.5 lakh saplings at MARG Swarnabhoomi and MARG Karaikal port.

Present as the chief guest of the occasion was the noted Kollywood actor and Padmashri recipient, Vivek. The ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. V Ponraj, scientific advisor to Dr. Abdul Kalam. Other distinguished guests who graced the occasion were Dr. Mannar Jawahar, Vice Chancellor, Anna University, Dr. Tri Shakti Sundar Raman, Chairman Tri Shakti Group, Dr. MB Nirmal, Founder and Chairman, ExNoRa.

Last year we had a Mahayagnam of tree plantation at MARG Swarnabhoomi which was highly successful and I feel privileged that this year too, we are taking green initiatives at MARG Swarnabhoomi, the unique city of education, research, innovation, industry and living. The Green Kalam plantation exercise will continue in full earnest till Jan 26th, 2012 when it is proposed that Dr Kalam will plant the 'millionth sapling" that will signify the fructification of this program's mammoth objective and a successful endeavour.

The presence of Dr. V Ponraj, Scientific advisor to Dr. Abdul Kalam was a source of inspiration to this plantation exercise as this Green Kalam initiative is based on the vision of Dr. APJ Kalam to make this world a greener place for future generations to benefit.

Actor Vivek who has taken the mantle on himself to carry forward this vision of Dr Kalam added, "The benevolent side of Dr. Kalam has always been an inspiration. Whether it be his drive towards educating the youth of today and the future of tomorrow or this green initiative, his vision towards our country has always been very encouraging and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate MARG and Mr. GRK Reddy on their active participation in this initiative."

The neighboring community, residents at MARG Swarnabhoomi, students of MIDAS, MARG Navajyothi Vidyalaya and a host of visitors and invitees participated in the noble plantation initiative. Adding colour to this exercise were hundreds of school children from nearby villages. Given Dr Kalam's love for children, it was befitting that they participate in his vision.

MARG Swarnabhoomi has already been shortlisted as Indian Green Building Council's pilot project for the first Platinum rated city and it will only go greener from here on.
